I have something amazing to share with all of you, last weekend my Sister and I threw my Mother a surprise 60th birthday party.
My sister came into town, from Maryland, on Wednesday, we spent the day running last minute errands, crafting, moving furniture and decorating the house. I made all the decorations myself, a marquee 60, a few banners and some cool party props.
I contacted a co-worker months in advanced and they helped me with getting my Mother off of work Thursday and Friday. Thursday afternoon Danielle and I surprised her at work and whisked her away to a tasty booze filled lunch and a little shopping. We ate a seafood dinner and played fashion-show so we could pick out our Mothers party outfit without her knowing.
Friday we headed down to the city for a fun filled spa day, My mother got a massage, facial and her nails done in a cool hip birthday design. We met my cousins, a few friends and Tony for dinner at a Brazilian steak house. I didn’t eat much but my Mother enjoyed herself and that’s all that mattered. My Aunt and cousins flew in from Arizona and surprised my Mom after dinner. They acted as a distraction keeping mom busy until 3:45 the next day.
My sister and I went to my house to prepare for the party. We got up at 5am on Saturday and made all the appetizers and handling all the last minute stuff. It was crazy, everyone was calling me asking for directions, if I needed anything and all that jazz, we had everything under control. I rented tables, chairs, plates, glasses, and silverware from a party supply store, it was perfect. I also ordered custom mason jars for people to take with them, and cookies shaped like my Mother as an added surprise. Of course Mom was 45 minutes late and she ran into our catering people and figured out we were having party but it really didn’t matter. She acted surprised, she was happy, everyone was happy and the party was a serious success. I got to see people I haven’t seen in over 10 years, my boyfriend was the life of the party, helping whenever needed, chatting with everyone and serving sake shots at the end of the night.
My cousin, my sisters best friend and my best friend helped the entire time and now I have to figure out a great way to thank them. It was hell not being able to talk about my plans with all of you, but my Mother is an avid Evolve with Mary reader and she would have figured it out, I bet you she’s reading this right now! #loveyoumom I have some awesome craft tutorials coming up.
